The Curse of Voros is in Trouble

October 27th, 2007 · 6 Comments

I’m sure Dan Shaugnessy already owned the publishing rights to “The Curse of Voros” but it looks bad as the Red Sox need to avoid losing four straight to notch another World Series title (I won’t even get a watch for this one).

I joke, but am happy for everyone there that I worked with as they are pretty much universally nice people. Congratulations are premature, but this is a long road home for the Rockies and it’s very unlikely they’ll make it.

It looks likely it will now be six straight World Series without a game 7. Last time the streak went that long they tacked on an extra two games just to put an end to it (and what a series the 1919 World Series was). If you throw out the three 9 game series, 8 straight seven game series failed to reach a game 7, 1913-1918 and then 1922 and 1923. The Boston American League Franchise won three of those eight series.

I’d be up for a nine gamer. Or a 15 gamer or something. I’m all about rotation depth.

Then again, being a Braves fan, I pretty much had to be.

Craig, you have fellow supporters of the 9 game format in Scott Boras and me. Does 3 constitute a movement?

Well Braves fans don’t have to worry about 15 degree wind chills in early November.

That said, a return to the 154 game schedule to accommodate longer playoff series wouldn’t necessary bother me.

These days Braves fans don’t have to worry about anything much after October 2nd or so.

Actually just five straight as Giants-Angels in 2002 went the distance.

But only four have gone seven games since 1988 — ’91, ’97, ’01 and ’02.

That’s what I get for doing analysis via eyeball. For some reason I thought the “4-3” on baseball reference read “4-2.” Thanks for the correction.
