*The ‘Heathen sports’ term I first saw used by John Mosey. I haven’t heard from him in a while. You still out there John?
Anyhow:
- As I said to my dad yesterday, the Packers may be the bad guys, but they’re our bad guys. I can’t root for the Giants and as long as the Packers lose the Super Bowl, I can live with a victory today. In the other game, anyone not from Boston or related to a team member really needs to take a hard look at themselves if they’re rooting for the Patriots. It’s like rooting for gravity.
- Congrats to the Men’s U.S. National Soccer Team on their 2-0 win over Sweden at the Home Depot Center. The game was “thrilling” even as far as friendlies without the full rosters go. Some games make it easy for folks to convert the non-converts. Others, like yesterday, only tend to reinforce the negative opinion folks have of the sport. Maybe they don’t have to worry about that in England, but it still matters here.
- Still can’t watch basketball in any form. Was actually my best sport back when I was thin, but watching it just makes me angry at everyone involved. Bring back the rulebook.
- Watching Women’s Tennis at the moment. To be safe, I won’t comment further.
- Haven’t watched a hockey game in five years. I actually have nothing against the sport, but when soccer jumped on me, there was only so much sports I could watch.
There is no deader time of the year in baseball than mid-January, but things pick up very soon.

Voros,
Have you ever done any advanced statistical analysis of soccer, or given it any thought? I’ve seen a few interesting methods to assess team strength and other things, but nothing too useful and/or rigorous.
