You may have noticed a running theme here where I bemoan my state of poverty. Thanks to Jose Canseco, I now have a fresh new idea with which to refill my coffers: extortion!
José Canseco, the former major league slugger and admitted steroid user who exposed other players in his 2005 best-selling book “Juiced,” offered to keep a Detroit Tigers outfielder “clear” in his next book if the player invested money in a film project Canseco was promoting…Canseco called (Scott) Boras’s office and spoke to one of Boras’s associates, saying (Magglio) Ordóñez would be “clear” in Canseco’s next book if he invested money in a $5 million movie project Canseco was promoting
Charming. I guess this sheds a whole new light on Jose’s late career jaunt through five teams in five years. I thought he was just trying to extend his career when in fact he was just widening the scope of the number of people he could potentially accuse in future books.
I also enjoy how in the article it mentions how it would be difficult to prove this was extortion. Maybe Craig can enlighten me, but outside of a courtroom, I think you’d find few people who’d see this any other way.
