The “triumphant” return of The Knack of the baseball world

Grow Up

First some imbeciles in New Hampshire get in a twist over Yankees caps in a presidential primary. Then a bunch of angry painters beat up a guy in Cambridge for wearing a Yankees hat. Now Mets and Red Sox “fans” have decided that Yankee Stadium is an inappropriate place for their NYU commencement ceremonies (as if there’s a shortage of colleges in Boston for Red Sox fans to go to if it bothers them so much).

The only place this level of immaturity leads to is people being shanked in the streets of Turkey. Is that what you bozos want? You want to mindlessly ape all the worst traits of hooliganism? Anyone who is a big enough fan of baseball to care about Yankee Stadium should probably consider it a great honor and cool opportunity to graduate there. I personally start every season hoping the Yankees go 0-162 and I’d still get a great thrill being on the field so many all-time great players have played on.

You would think winning two World Series would make Red Sox fans more philosophic and introspective, but instead it appears to have made some even more juvenile. I understand that this behavior doesn’t reflect the vast majority of Red Sox fans, but too often the response I hear from those folks is along the lines of “well sure, but its no different than what would happen to us in New York.” I wish the folks whose behavior has made Red Sox fans admired as some of the most loyal and passionate in sports could reign some of these mulletheads in.

Next time you see a guy in a Yankees cap in Fenway, give him a hard time but smile while doing it and maybe offer to buy him a beer as well. If he’s a jerk, your being magnanimous will annoy him more than any insults or threats would. If he’s not then he doesn’t deserve insults or threats.

Agreed. It’s sad when sports fans can’t put sports into perspective and end up committing heinous acts of douchebagerry, even violence.
