Thanks to Baseball Reference, I now know that Al Rosen is celebrating his 21st birthday today. I’m surprised a player of his quality at that age is still a free agent. Speaking of age, I also have a new post up at Baseball Digest Daily about players who are “young for their league.”

Well one thing my career at Baseball Digest Daily will allow me to do is digress into non-baseball stuff. I used to blog about soccer and I miss it so I suppose you’ll see the occasional soccer post on here from time to time. Piotr Nowak has named the team he’s bringing into Olympic qualifying […]

Multitasking!!

My first post is up at Baseball Digest Daily. There will still be plenty of stuff here (mostly clips from Death Race 2000), but I’m going to be posting a lot of stuff at BDD too. This is all part of my plan for global domination and enslavement of the human race.

Below is a link to an excel spreadsheet which demonstrates the log 5 phenomenon I wrote about seven years ago in today’s post about Bill James and Craig Biggio. Do with it what you will. Grace vs. Pedro vs. Karros vs. Karl

Craig Biggo Hates Old People

My dad used to talk a lot about guys he considered to be “cripple shooters”: guys who he thought feasted against lousy pitchers and struggled more than usual against good ones. Baker Dust Up
February 22nd, 2008 · 1 Comment
Over at the always acerbic BTF, they’re having a discussion about why Dusty Baker suddenly wants to play a prospect. It appears to have morphed into an argument over Dusty’s merits as a manager. Now far be it from me to suggest that such a discussion is similar to discussing the merits of a team’s […]

White Sox are Checking their Colon
February 20th, 2008 · 1 Comment
The White Sox appear to be looking at Bartolo Colon as a possibility for their 5th starter. Bartolo has continued to post good strikeout to walk ratios but the homers really seem to be piling up. That’s unlikely to improve in the home park of the White Sox. That said Gavin Floyd is similarly afflicted […]

Sabermetric Drive By: Pythag Based Standings Projections
February 17th, 2008 · 1 Comment
I’ve always been a firm believer in basic information as a foundation for making more complicated analysis later on. You have start with the basic info before you start trying to split atoms. In that vein here’s something basic. It’s the projected standings for 2008 based on the Pythag numbers from 2007 and 2006. The […]

Batting Fourth: Dan Wilson!!

Well the Giants seem to feel they’ve solved their cleanup hitter problem. Leave aside the fact that a guy with a career 0.411 slugging percentage is no kind of solution in this or any day and age, the real question is why the identity of the cleanup hitter for the Giants in 2008 is any […]
